Welcome to Oak Tree Life Skills CIC — a vibrant and inclusive day service based in Clacton-on-Sea. We support adults with autism, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and sensory impairments by offering tailored activities and specialist care that promotes independence, personal growth, and a strong sense of community.
Here’s a closer look at how we support our service users and what makes our workshops so impactful.
At Our Workshops, We Use SMART Goals
(Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Timely)
Our approach to personal development is structured around SMART goal setting. Every activity is guided by realistic outcomes that help each person build on their strengths, grow in confidence, and gain essential life skills.
Our Workshops
Arts, Crafts & Pottery
Service users explore creativity through tactile and sensory materials — shaping clay, crafting personal artwork, and developing focus and motor skills in the process.
Creative Arts
From movement and music to drama and performance, this workshop nurtures expression, coordination, and social confidence. Our shows are a highlight, bringing the Oak Tree community together.
Tacpac
A sensory experience using sound, movement, and touch. Tacpac supports individuals with sensory impairments or complex communication needs, helping them connect and engage through non-verbal interaction.
Health and Wellbeing
Through activities focused on hygiene, personal safety, relationships, and fitness, this workshop builds the foundations of a healthy lifestyle — from self-care to social confidence.
Healthy Eating & Cookery
Participants learn to plan, cook and shop for nutritious, budget-friendly meals. The workshop also develops key social and communication skills through real-world experiences like restaurant outings.
IT & Assistive Technology
Our accessible tech suite includes touchscreen monitors, adaptive switches, and even eye-gaze technology — helping users build confidence with digital tools, send emails, and gain skills for everyday independence.
Woodwork
Set in a stimulating outdoor environment, our woodworking sessions build practical skills, from using hand tools to creating useful home and garden items. A great outlet for creativity and achievement.
Life Skills
This workshop focuses on real-life preparation — covering social interaction, shopping, household tasks, road safety, and money handling. It also supports participants to explore meaningful ways to contribute to the community or take on supported work experience within the centre.
Gardening
Hands-on and calming, our gardening sessions take place in our outdoor spaces. Participants learn how to grow and care for plants, build routines and enjoy the sensory benefits of nature.
Animal Care
This workshop offers the chance to engage with and care for animals in a safe and supported setting. It encourages empathy, responsibility and emotional connection — great for building confidence and calm.
Music
This uplifting session helps service users connect through rhythm, sound and song. It’s a powerful way to support mood, coordination and self-expression — whether through instruments, singing or movement.
