OUR WORKSHOPS

At our Workshops we use SMART (Specific Measurable Achievable Relevant Timely) goal setting to help achieve an outcome

Communication:
Listening, following directions, expressing needs and wants and answering questions.
Social Skills:
Taking turns, having a conversation and making friends.
Independent Skills:
Using money, using technology, using transport and looking after your belongings.
Physical & Emotional skills:
Improving fine motor skills, engaging in physical activity, identifying emotions, expressing emotions and managing emotions.
Health and Work Skills:
Initiative, team work, self-management, organising, mental health, self esteem and relationships.

ARTS, CRAFTS & POTTERY

Express creativity by exploring various craft skills, using sensory and tactile materials, creating a real piece of art, that Picasso would be proud of! Working with clay has proven to hold potential for further learning and discovery, whilst also encouraging concentration and motor skills. Service users can see their creations come to life.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING

Living a healthy lifestyle is essential. Eating healthy, exercise, personal hygiene, staying safe and relationships enables you to feel better, look better and enhance quality of life. Our workshops work thorough various activities dealing with Relationships, Personal Hygiene, Health, Social interactions and everyday Life skills. Eating out at restaurants can be a lot of fun but also a daunting experience. The thought of communicating with staff to explain your order and then pay the bill can require certain skills. Our workshop will go through all of the day to day experiences of going to a restaurant and ordering and paying your bill as well as trips out to the local restaurants to put all your hard work to fruition.

WOODWORK

The workshop is surrounded by a stimulating outdoor setting. Our experienced workshop facilitator strives to give our service users a sense of achievement by taking time to assess each individual’s needs. Here our service users will learn a variety of wood crafting skills, including the safe use of hand and power tools. To create a wide range of useful products for home and garden.

PERFORMING ARTS

Music, movement and drama are wonderful forms of non-verbal expression. This workshop encourages physical movement, co-ordination and the development of self-expression, whilst increasing self-confidence. Increased communication skills can help friendships to be formed. We create fantastic shows every year which family and friends can attend. The buzz and excitement of the shows is clear for all to see and really does confirm that the service users are the heart and soul of Oak Tree.

HEALTHY EATING AND COOKERY

A healthy diet has many benefits, from a physical perspective and to help the increased risk to your health. A good way to help start a healthy diet is to start our healthy living workshop and learn how to cook and eat good food. You will learn how to create cost effective meals, cook and present your food whilst learning food hygiene and safety. Shopping is also a large part of our workshop and is a great way to interact in the community, improve communication and social skills, as well as learning important life skills such as handling money.

LIFE SKILLS

Many adults with disabilities get overwhelmed when they think of the prospect of change, or learning a whole new way of life. But it doesn’t have to be like that, in fact better results are often achieved when people take one step at a time and make small changes to their lifestyle. Many life skills are easily attainable if you know where to start. Our new workshop will look at some essential life skills and go through all aspects of daily living. The programme will include Social interaction and communication, Road safety and shopping. Household activities and employment and financials. Work is part of adult life. It empowers us to contribute to society and make money to do more things we love – whether they be hobbies, sports or community activities. Here at Willow Park everyone who attends our Life Skills workshop will have the opportunity to work within our center in different areas depending on what they would like to do.

TACPAC

At Oak Tree we offer an amazing sensory opportunity for you to experience. Tacpac is a sensory communication resource using touch and music that can be used by anyone. Tacpac helps people with sensory impairment, developmental delay, complex learning difficulties, tactile defensiveness, and limited or pre verbal levels of communication.

IT AND ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY

Assistive technology can help empower people to become more independent. Computers, internet, smartphones and tablets are used in most daily tasks, from social media to shopping. It can also help overcome difficulties with reading, writing, numbers and organizing. Here at willow park our computer suite is designed for all abilities. We have large wheelchair accessible touchscreen monitors with different switches to make movement easier. Our amazing eye gaze machine allows people with little movement the opportunity to work the computer just using your eyes. There are varied activities throughout each workshop from learning how to use the internet and smart tablets to sending emails and applying for jobs. Each workshop is designed around each personal our personal goals.
